Volunteer for Cardboard Citizens

Volunteering is a great way to develop your skills, meet new people and work as part of an enthusiastic team. If you are passionate about the performing arts and would like to make a difference to the lives of homeless people, you could play a vital part in helping Cardboard Citizens achieve its mission.

We're always looking for helpful and reliable volunteers, no matter how much or how little time you're able to spare.

Why not make good use of your skills and get involved... you could help out with our performances, help make our events a success, help out at our workshops or help run the office.

If you have a special skill or would like to support our work in a specific role, please complete and return our volunteer application form by email to stuart@cardboardcitizens.org.uk

You can also visit our Jobs page where current opportunities are advertised.

Meet our volunteers

Lydia Barrett - Volunteer in Fundraising Team Jan-Sep 2010

I began interning for Cardboard Citizens in January 2010 and I was helping out on the fundraising events. I became particularly involved in the Down & Out London to Paris Bike Ride which took place in September 2010. I loved being a part of the organising process and it was very rewarding to see a team of around twenty people take up the challenge of cycling to Paris, to raise money for Cardboard Citizens. My experience of interning for Cardboard Citizens was fantastic and all the staff are brilliant to work with. In particular I really loved knowing that I was working for a company that produces such amazing theatre whilst helping homeless people to progress in their lives through the creative processes involved.

Lee Bofkin - Volunteer in Development & Marketing, July-Sep 2008

I was given the opportunity to volunteer for a charity for four months on secondment from the Capital Group Companies. I chose to volunteer for Cardboard Citizens because I felt I could have more impact in a smaller charity. My experiences at Cardboard Citizens have been varied and challenging. I have been involved in building our corporate fundraising resources and processes, which has included redeveloping our volunteer management program. I have also been involved in various projects that help senior management plan for the future. The breadth of the work has been a real highlight. I have also been involved in the outreach side of Cardboard Citizens, attending samba drumming workshops and helping our events at the front-of-house. The highlight of the outreach work was taking part in the Thames Festival Parade with the Cardboard Citizens Samba Band.

Ffion Evans - Intern in Fundraising & Marketing, June- October 2008

I became an intern for Cardboard Citizens in June 2008. I was only supposed to stay for three months, but to be honest they couldn’t get rid of me! Almost five months later I’m still here, and dreading my last day. I wanted to work with Cardboard Citizens as I had seen a production of Woyzeck around 4 years ago. At the time I was working on a similar project at University and Cardboard Citizens’ work had always inspired me. At the time of applying for the internship I had just come back from teaching English and Drama in a grassroots folk theatre school in Southern India. The internship seemed perfect for me, a way of strengthening my links to Theatre in Development whilst giving me a clear focus, which I had been lacking since returning to the country.
